The Texas casino cruise ship operators recently asked via its social media channels, if the captain should be terminated or reinstated before the boat resumes operations on Friday.
The social media posts resulted in some backlash forcing the operators to clarify the unusual move to local media.
General Manager Rocky Herrin said it was all a big misunderstanding.
“Our aim was to see if our passengers and patrons had a comfort level with the captain at the helm.”
He continued, “The poll was never intended to sway management’s decision on captain’s pending hire, rather, it was used to see, as we already believed, an affirmation of overwhelming support he received in prior posts.”
Jacks or Better’s social media base has grown significantly since the collision. The company has shared an onboard video of the collision, and publicly posted the captain’s negative drug and alcohol toxicology test results showing he was sober.
